II. Jet Set Willy (JSW48)

A. New games using Matthew Smith's original Jet Set Willy game engine for the 48K Spectrum and its modifications

23. Jet Set Willy: The Colossal Cave

Also known as: Jet Set Willy Meets Colossal Cave

Author: James Wyatt

Year: 2000

Language: English

Jet Set Willy: The Colossal Cave is the only known gamma-released JSW game created by James Wyatt. There is no background information available about the game, as it was released without a Readme, the title-screen scrolling message is not modified and the author does not seem to have ever posted about his creation on the web.

Even the intended title of the game is uncertain. Andrew Broad announced the existence of the game on the MM and JSW Yahoo! Group in June 2000, quoting its name as Jet Set Willy meets Colossal Cave. It is also listed on Gawp (Gary Pearce)'s JSW Remakes website, where the game is called Jet Set Willy Meets Colossal Cave, but the download link only points to Colossal Cave. The game is called The Colossal Cave on World of Spectrum and Spectrum Computing, while other websites (including the RZX Archive, Speccy Screenshot Maps and various ROM-hosting sites) call it Jet Set Willy: The Colossal Cave or Jet Set Willy - The Colossal Cave.

Number of edited rooms: 62

("Nomen Luni" [48] is unmodified in relation to the original JSW [except for the guardians] and unused in the game, as is room "[" [47].)

Number of rooms accessible without cheating: 62

("Artist Y Motel Anth StJohn" [36] is only accessible after collecting all items, when Maria does not block the passage any more, by exiting "Have A Maria" [35] upwards without triggering the toilet run.)

Number of rooms which need to be visited to complete the game: 59

("The Plug(h) room" [18] and "Revenge of the big scary thing" [44] can be omitted, and there is no point in entering "Artist Y Motel Anth StJohn" [36] instead of triggering the toilet run once all items have been collected.)

Number of items to collect: 135
