Pip The Pipistrelle was the first JSW game gamma-released by Steve Dixon (Jammajup). It was released in March 2012.
The protagonist of the game is a Pipistrelle bat (member of the species fondly referred to as 'pips' by bat enthusiasts). Pip wakes up near the entrance to an old, brick, 62-floor-high tower. He has fallen from the bat roost on the 60th floor, he is injured and too weak to fly, he limps. His mission is to get back to the roost, collecting enough moths, butterflies, slugs, spiders, grubs and other kinds of food along the way to give him enough energy to survive the cold night when/if he does make it to the roost.
The tower has seen a lot of history: there are signs of industry or humans in the lower levels, with vegetation and wildlife taking over as Pip gets higher. The inside of the tower is one screen wide with the outer brickwork to the right (east) and left (west) taking up a further screen. There are also some other features that increase the width of the playing area.
The game features some secret passages and 10 special hidden screens, most of which are tributes to classic video games. The fall-any-height POKE is turned on by default, so that Pip can fall from any height safely. Some items give Pip extra lives.
The game uses Variant W, Hacklevel 12 of the JSW64 game engine.
