23. Terry The Turtle

Author: Steve Dixon (Jammajup)

Publisher: Purple Unicorn Software

Year: 2012

Language: English

Terry The Turtle was the second JSW game gamma-released by Steve Dixon (Jammajup). It was released in June 2013 in three versions:

Yellow (Normal) - "the standard game with lots of lives and even more to be found if your curious"

Cyan (Intermediate) - "less Terry tokens around than the Yellow version and some screens may have an extra enemy or faster moving ones, screens may have new features or be replaced totally on the game map"

Red (Hard) - "even less Terry tokens than the Cyan version and more enemies, many moving quickly. There are even more hazards on some screens which may be in new positions so once again there may be a variation in the game map."

In July 2013 Steve Dixon released one more version of the game: Terry The Turtle-Vector (Special Edition), "a hybrid of the Yellow and Cyan versions" "with Bbc Micro style wire frame graphics and new backgrounds". In this variant "some screens have name changes or may reference vector games otherwise the name may simply be a variation of the original TTT screens", "Terry now collects and rescues flashing turtle eggs instead of 'T' tokens", "cideo game tribute screens are now only of vector arcade, console and computer games" and "some screens have new features, there may be brand new enemies such as beach balls, etc. and the flashing bonus items may be in new places".

The game uses Variant W, Hacklevel 12 of the JSW64 game engine.

Number of edited rooms: 128

Number of items to collect:

Yellow version: 157

Cyan version: 73

Red version: 48

Vektor version: 135

Bugfix needed after original release? NO

Spare lives at the start: 7

Bonus lives awarded? YES: more than 20

( The player starts with 7 spare lives which are visible on the screen. As they gain extra lives, 4 more lives become visible. The next 3 extra lives are not marked in any visible way, and then with the 15th life the leftmost little turtle at the bottom of the screen starts to flicker. Then, with the following extra lives, the next turtles at the bottom of the screen start to flicker. When the number of lives exceeds 28, it affects the display of the room names: the letters disappear starting with the leftmost one; the effect is irreversible - even if the number of lives goes down below 28 again, the affected letters in room names in new rooms the player enters are not visible. With even more lives the game is slowed down or it can crash or become unplayable in some other way, e.g. because of "rogue" cells blocking the player's way.)

Completable? YES

(According to the game's author, "flashing Terry Tokens award lives but do not have to be collected to complete the game, you just have get Terry to deep water".

With the game's completion defined in this way, all four versions of the game are completable. None of them is either Maria- or toilet-completable, though.

As far as item-completability is concerned, definite information about it will be presented here after a further study. Please note that the information currently present in the ZIP file with RZX walkthroughs of the game contains some errors which will be corrected when time permits.)

Starting time and the best documented completion time: N/A

(There is no clock in the game.)
