Jet Set Willy - J. G. Harston's version
Author: Jonathan Graham Harston
Year: 1984-2007
Bugfix: 2018
Language: English
A version using an extended JSW48 game engine, created by J. G. Harston, which allows more than 64 rooms, featuring new rooms: "The Cave Mouth" (62) and "The Cave" (63), written by Greg Heslington in 1985 with J. G. Harston's JSW Room Editor, as well as "April Showers" (47) by Dave Nicholls, plus several mainly blank, untitled rooms and slight modifications to a part of the original rooms and layout. It also features a new sprite by Greg Heslington ('Slinky', present e.g. in "The Bathroom"). The game also has several technical patches, which include various bug fixes, the ability to return to BASIC without clearing memory (by pressing SS-Space from the introductory screen) and the specification of the sprite page to use for the player sprite on a room-by-room basis.
Furthermore, the game features a cheat selection screen which appears after the game has loaded, where the player can choose the number of lives, the number of items and the starting room, as well as several options (infinite lives, invincibility, drop any height, etc.) which make the game easier to complete. The values can be chosen only once; they cannot be modified once the game has been restarted without being re-loaded.
The game file hosted on J. G. Harston's website for many years was incompletable due to a bug later discovered by Daniel Gromann. Fortunately, Jonathan released a bug-fixed version in March 2018.
Number of edited rooms: 67
Number of rooms accessible without cheating: 67
Number of rooms which need to be visited to complete the game: 66
(This number can be lowered by choosing a starting room other than "The Bathroom"; e.g. rooms 104 and 105 can be omitted if "Under the Drive" [45] is chosen as the starting point and then the player exits upwards from room 103 after clearing "The Cave" [63]. In any case, "Entrance to Hades" [06] should be omitted as entering it results in a multiple-death scenario.)
Number of items to collect: 90
(This number can be modified on the cheat selection screen).
Completable without loss of life? NO
Lives which need to be sacrificed to complete the game: 1
(A life has to be sacrificed to collect the leftmost item in "Conservatory Roof" [43]).
Starting time: 7:00 am
Best documented completion time with no unnecessary loss of life: 8:07 am
