Manic Miner: The Lost Levels is a MM game for the ZX Spectrum, featuring 20 levels that were originally created for other platforms. The game includes:
- 10 levels originally from the Gameboy Advance;
- 5 levels originally from the Oric-1;
- 2 levels originally from the Dragon 32;
- 2 levels originally from the BBC Micro;
- 1 level originally from the Amstrad CPC.
For a complete list of levels and their origins, please refer to the Readme included in the release ZIP file.
Byron Needham was inspired to start this project after watching "Manic Miner Ports" by RetroGamerDiaries. He wondered if it would be possible to convert these levels to the ZX Spectrum format. Using JSWED 2.3.7, he successfully recreated the 'lost levels,' staying as true to the original game mechanics as possible.
During the development of Manic Miner: The Lost Levels, Byron discovered a port for the Nintendo DS that included all the Oric-1 levels he had not converted, along with some of the ones he had. However, it was missing most of the Gameboy Advance screens. This led him to create a second version of the game, titled Manic Miner: The Lost Levels DS, which features:
- 12 levels originally from the the Oric-1;
- 2 levels originally from the Gameboy Advance;
- 2 levels originally from the Dragon 32;
- 2 levels originally from the BBC Micro;
- 1 level originally from the Amstrad CPC;
- 1 level originally from the Nintendo DS.
Please refer to the Readme included in the release ZIP file for a complete list of levels in this variant of the game and their origins.
Version 1.1 of the game added the item-collection sound effect from JSW and corrected a typo in one of the room names.
Number of rooms in each variant: 20
