Manic Scroller
Authors: Mark Woodmass (Woody) / Daniel Gromann
Year: 2008 / 2018
Language: English
A double-width variant of Manic Miner with stretched graphics and horizontal scrolling. It was created by Woody, who posted it to comp.sys.sinclair in December 2008. It was available as a snapshot in SZX and SNA formats, but the game suffered from a critical bug: the new code corrupted the graphics in "The Final Barrier" (as well as on the title screen), creating a multiple-death scenario upon entrance to this cavern and thus making the game incompletable.
Daniel Gromann fixed the game in 2018 (by restoring the graphics data in question to the area occupied by the source code remnants at #9400 - #9CFF) and released it on the tenth anniversary of the original upload, in TAP and TZX formats, with a custom BASIC loader, loading screen and slightly modified title screen and scrolling message.
The name of the game was inspired by the title of a thread on World of Spectrum started by Mr. Anonymous.
Number of rooms: 20
Highest documented score:
- upon reaching the swordfish sign: 37,685 points;
- upon first re-entry into the first cavern: 38,936 points.
