1. Jet Set Willy X

Author: Karel 'Clock' Kulhavý

Publisher: Twibright Labs

Year: 2006

Language: English

Jet Set Willy X is a JSW game with a completely rewritten game engine and game mechanics different from the original JSW. It was created by Karel roughly between 1993 and 1996 (at the age of 14-17) and finished and released in 2006. Alan Petrik created the music for a player routine written by Karel, and logout128 fixed the title screen.

Willy wants to play games on his ZX Spectrum, but his strict wife will not allow him to do it until he collects all items in the city that she wants.

The game engine differences in relation to the original JSW include the following elements:

There are no guardians; however the game is still very difficult in some places.

Willy walks twice as fast, the animation is smooth 50Hz instead of 25Hz, Willy has twice as many positions and his sprites are a bit different.

There are no ropes.

There is a two-channel tune instead of one-channel.

Willy can fall through a one-character hole.

The rooms are 20 characters high instead of 16.

There are many more different cell classes in one room. The attributes in the room are not used to encode the meaning of the cell classes, which can be set arbitrarily.

The jump looks a bit different.

The ending of the game is different.

When Willy enters a room from sideways, he does not start one character away from the edge, but at the very edge.

The kill and collect sounds are different and they are accompanied by border effects.

The in-game tune continues playing during the kill or collect sound.

The scrolling of the title-screen message is pixel-smooth.

Number of edited rooms: 69

Number of items to collect: 395

Starting time and the best documented completion time: N/A

(There is no clock in the game.)
