Don Cosme is a game similar in concept to MM. It was published on MicroHobby Cassette 02 in April 1985.
GAME PREMISE: Cosme is a character whose life passes peacefully, even mundanely. Only at night do strange events occur.
One night, Cosme dreams that he is a construction worker and, as in many of his dreams, he finds himself returning to a building site where he works night after night. This time, however, the familiar setting has turned against him: tools, scaffolding, construction equipment and heavy machinery have all rebelled. Cosme is trapped among the scaffolds of the building he normally moves through with ease, and his dream becomes a dangerous nightmare.
The only way to escape is to wake up — but Cosme cannot do this alone. He needs a helping hand, a skilful one capable of replacing his sleeping reflexes. Only the player can help Cosme escape by guiding him through the different floors of the construction site. The objective is to move carefully across the platforms and scaffolds, collecting scattered objects while avoiding hostile items and hazardous machinery that can cost him one of his four lives.
The building is divided into five distinct screens, each of which must be cleared of all objects before Cosme can progress further. Not all objects are harmless, and contact with the wrong ones can cost him one of his four lives. Unstable floors and unfinished foundations add to the danger, as they may collapse underfoot and cause a fatal fall. Each collected item adds to the player’s score. Only skill, steady nerves and quick reflexes will allow Cosme to survive his nightmare and finally wake up.
Paco Martín created a sequel to Don Cosme, entitled Cosme y los Alienígenas (also known as Uve Atac). It was published on MicroHobby Cassette 03 in May 1985. Since its gameplay is very different from both MM and JSW, it is not discussed on JSW Central.
