Janky Joe in Retro Hell
Authors: Dave Sloan and Nate Sloan
Publisher: Sloanysoft
Year: 2023
Language: English
Janky Joe in Retro Hell is a game created by Sloanysoft—a father-and-son duo consisting of Dave and Nate Sloan, with music by DJ h0ffman (which won the Best Oldskool Music Award at the Revision 2023 demoparty) and with some help from Bruce Groves and members of "a wonderful online community". The game was made using Jonathan Cauldwell's Multi-Platform Arcade Game Designer (MPAGD). The game is similar to MM in that the player has to collect all items on each screen (in this case: everything that is yellow), which allows them to progress to the next screen. Players navigate through 20 "janky" levels that are parodies of classic arcade and retro video games to reach the final screen where they complete the rescue mission.
GAME PREMISE: For reasons unknown, Janky Joe is about to jump out of a helicopter and into a whole world of trouble. The player needs to guide Janky Joe through the haunted ANTcade to play through janky interpretations of retro classics and rescue the trapped souls of those who have dared to enter before.
