Subject: Re: Ethics
"I was just wondering about your opinions on
hidden objects in games."
depends on the context.
if you do have them, i would provide a route back to
them should the player miss them. in fact, i make it
part of my 'ethics' to provide routes back to *all*
the objects, because otherwise it's a bit of a
nuisence. (sp?).
" It's a bit like having invisible
fire blocks or using non-contrasting colours (e.g.
cyan guardians on a yellow background), both of which
have cropped up in people's games. "
invisible
fire blocks are *horrid* (apart from in rare cases),
but i like non-contrasting colours... looks weird so
it gets the points :)
invisible walkways are
another 'moral dilemma'. see 'willy's holiday'. in
situations like this it's best to look at it from the
player's perspective (empathy) and see if you've given
substantial clues (i.e. process of elimination, etc) as to
what the player might have to do.
