Subject: Re: Possible new commercial MM/JSW games
It took me a minute to digest this wonderous
information. I hope they start making those new Willy games
soon. They might even tempt me to do what I haven't
done in a long time - buying a new videogame*. I don't
think they'll try to take us on. After all, there's
already a wide range of Willy remakes and edits for a
huge selection of systems floating round the net.
Trying to stamp it all out would probably bankrupt the
company.
*at this very moment only that and the prospect of
Jeff Minter's Tempest 3000 being released on the PC
could lure me into a software buying
situation
One thing I do hope however is that they'll have the
good sense to keep true to the original. Nothing would
break my heart more than to play a new Willy game only
to find that it reminds me more of Pitfall or Dizzy
(to name a couple of examples). Also, I hope they're
not thinking of going for the flashy rendered intro
type thing. Not so much because of the "style over
content" gripe that we retro enthusiasts all seem to
share, but because (Heaven forbid) to *explain* what's
going on. That would just kill a lot of the magic for
me. Willy games are SUPPOSED to be chaos!
I
hope they're paying Matt properly for his creation. He
deserves it
