Subject: Re: 3D / Jester Interactive

"I think 2D is best, but I would like to see a
*decent* 3D version of MM/JSW, too."

I suppose it
has its possibilities. I just feel you'd lose some of
the magic if Willy could walk around all those
guardians instead of jumping them. Of course you could open
up a whole new world of possibilities with
horizontals going in two different directions (for example).
I guess I'd have to see it for myself before I
could believe in it.

I'd certainly hope it was
3D in the way Speccy games were 3D though. How could
you make a good Willy derivative on a Tomb
Raider-style engine?

"I must admit it's a temptation,
as I'm facing unemployment after finishing my PhD
this year. But I would have to decline for moral
reasons - I would be guilty of the sin of Simony if I
sold Willy for money. I'll just continue making free
Spectrum games, and hope that more people will download
them rather than buy commercial (I hate that word)
games."

I couldn't do that even if I wanted to. My
Willy-building imagination will only go so far. I don't think we
can complain about commercial games though. Unless
I'm mistaken Matt didn't sit outside software shops
handing out free copies of MM and JSW

"I wonder if
Jester Interactive will commit the sin of Simony by
trying to buy the rights to *our* Willy games? But I
wouldn't sell Broadsoft, even if I were broke and they
offered me a million
pounds."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Sorry, I'm just imagining the idea of anyone wanting to
buy the rights to Time Hole

Seriously though,
I don't know if I'd sell the rights to it or not.
Probably not. Much as I am a devotee of the quick buck, I
have commitments to people here (and in other places)
to keep it free and available.

When you say
"buy the rights" are you thinking 'to release' or 'to
keep them off the market'? Just
curious.

Anyway, I'd rather they didn't try. I don't want to get
wrapped up in legal recriminations and business deals
over Jester's plans to release a game that is destined
for cultdom at the very best

"A very valid
concern! I wonder if they're even aware of us? "After a
prolonged absence" suggests not..."

I wouldn't be
surprised if they don't know anything about the Willy
fandom on the web. They certainly won't have researched
enough to know about our insistence that Willy should
walk through head-height walls from left to right.
Strange though that they should think of resurrecting a
game that was a massive hit fifteen years ago if
they're unaware of its present cult status. Maybe they DO
know about us, and whoever wrote the original article
is unaware of our presence

Writing this whole
thing has begun to make me think of us as the
Willy-Underground ;)
