I would appreciate it very much if you - or anyone
- would write up a guide to using MMSE on the
various emulators.

People keep emailing me that
they can't load/save in MMSE, and I can't help them
out fully because the problems are with their PC
Spectrum emulators (I can only use MMSE on my real
Spectrum - I can't use it on MacSpectacle because (a)
MacSpectacle doesn't support 128K mode properly, and (b)
MacSpectacle can't write TAP files).

The basics: MMSE
operates on 20K room files (1K per room), whereas to play
them you need to convert them to full 32K game files,
by adding the 12K from 32768-45055 to the room file
(45056-65535). I included a utility with MMSE called MM Loader
to assist with this.

I would very much
appreciate it if a guide to using MMSE with various
emulators would appear in the MM/JSW FAQ at Remakes, so
that I can refer people to that.

As I see it,
you need an emulator that can write TAP files, so
that MMSE can save the 20K room file, which you then
load into MM Loader and save from there as a 32K game
file.

If you do not have an emulator that can write TAP
files, you could either do some clever surgery with
snapshots, or just break into MMSE, do a NEW followed by
CLEAR 32767 followed by loading the 12K core file (from
the MMSE TAP file), and then it's ready to play
(RANDOMIZE USR 33792).

But I'm not familiar with
Spectrum emulators for the PC, so is that all there is to
it?
