Subject: Nasties - theoretical maximum size?

I'm not sure if anyone will have come across this
or not, but it occurs to me it'd be handy info, so
maybe someone else has made a note of
it....

Anyway, what I'm waffling on about is the theoretical
maximum size for nasties that can be jumped safely over
by Willy (in normal jump mode).

F'rinstance,
a horizontal guardian I have jsut done for 'A
Lovecraftian Willy' (a vintage car) is made up of three
sprites, with a total of 40 pixels width at any one time
(number in front and back vary with the 2 pixel scrolling
movement), and a maximum height of 16 pixels across the
lenght of the three sprites (more or less in the middle
of the middle sprite actually - the demon driver's
head!)

Testing it out Willy seems to be able to jump this quite
comfortably (although he does experience some colour clash as
he passes through the 'empty' bits of the sprite). I
realise that as he is in mid air the effect of the
guardian moving maybe reduces the lenght Willy has to jump
by maybe 8 - 10 pixels (at a guess).

Now to
me these multiple sprite guardians (animation 7) are
quite confusing to do ('though this time I made
detailed notes about what frame of animation should go
where). I'd hate to spend ages making one only to find
out poor old Willy had no chance of clearing it.

So any ideas of a maximum overall lenght/height
Willy can jump safely?

Jim
