Subject: JSW: relinquishing items when you die
I've had the idea of modifying the JSW game
engine so that when you lose a life, it would put back
the items you've taken in the current room, like the
MM game engine does. This would rule out the
Kamikaze approach to collecting items in such JSW rooms as
We Pretty's "S A T AN S S H ED".
I propose
that when you enter a room, the JSW game engine keeps
a list of the items you've taken (as indices in the
item table), and if you lose a life, it uncollects the
items you've taken since you entered, and decrements
the items count accordingly.
Once you leave a
room (including by teleportation), the items you've
collected would stay collected - a policy which serves not
to restrict the Promised Land effect in rooms such
as where's woody's "viagra falls".
I'm not up
for implementing this myself in the near future
because I'm too busy, and it's awkward (it would
inevitably involve code motion). Perhaps Geoff Eddy or John
Elliott would like to have a go? :-)
