Subject: "The making of... Manic Miner" in Edge

Issue #103 of Edge magazine has a feature about
the making of Manic Miner. Someone from Edge knocked
on Matthew Smith's front door and he agreed to be
interviewed about MM/JSW.

The article in question
isn't up to the usual Edge standard IMO, but it's well
worth purchasing the magazine as it throws light on the
Software
Projects fiasco.

The screenshots of MM are
intriguing, as some of them cannot be taken from someone
playing the game (Miner Willy is somehow above the
rightmost
item without the crumbling floor crumbling at all in
"The Cold Room").

There are a few errors in the
article, "comp.sis.sinclair" being the
most striking,
which is surprising considering Edge's
reputation.

As I expected, there was no mention made of the
numerous edited Spectrum versions of MM. Another
opportunity to spread the word goes wasted...

When I
purchased the magazine in Game, the shop assistant enquired
"Is there any reason you are buying this issue, sir?
Because of the GameCube
or Xbox is it?", to which I
replied "I'm buying it for the Matthew Smith interview
about Manic Miner".

The assistant said "oh" and
looked puzzled! Fancy working in a shop that specialises
in videogames and never having heard of Matthew
Smith
or Manic Miner! :-)

Phil
