Subject: Re: What's going on ?????? (more ideas)
"great! any chance of seeing a beta
version?"
I guess I could release a beta of the game "engine"
to see how it plays. The editor's still too buggy
right now to release, but maybe soon.
"new
enemies are a good idea, especially ones that are frozen
until you collect all the items, etc. also, different
speeds is important."
If you have DIV games
studio you can draw you're own enemies by editing the
FPG file, but I will be looking to put more enemies
in.
"have you considered background blocks? just for
decoration."
That could be a prob only if you put too much into one
screen, it'll just run out of memory. I tried cramming a
screen full of objects earlier and it slowed right
down.
"animated spikes?"
You mean like a bad block but
animating? yeah, could do that.
"ropes and ladders, a
la monty on the run?"
Dunno, wanted to keep
it "jet set willy" if you know what I mean ;-)
"conveyor belts that go at different speeds?"
Well,
could do it but, there's a system that JSW uses, it's
where sprites move horizontally 8 pixels at a time, so
I'd have to work round that
somehow...
"slides. these are like diagonal conveyor belts which go
down, and you can jump off of them."
yep, good
idea. Arn't these off the one of the "east wall"
screens on JSW?
" "save enemies"... what's
that??"
As in saving the enemies in a enemy table from the
editor, then loading them up in the actual
game.
"switches. to make platforms appear, conveyors change
direction, guardians change etc.. not sure how you'd system
that. might be a bit too fiddly."
That's
something that could easily be done in the actual game, but
using the editor to create you're own err, things to
happen when you flick the switch might be a bit
hard.
"teleports. pretty easily done."
Again, programming it
in the editor might prove to be tricky, but it's
worth a shot.
"i'd really love some monty on the
run (c64-version) type water."
That could work
the same way as a bad block but you can only approach
it from above, then you sink into it. Yep, that
could work.
"you could also, if you were feeling
adventurous, put the monty 'crushers' in"
Ahh the
crushers, didn't think of those. They were a pain to get
past in MOTR. Yep, those could go
in.
"platforms that appear and disappear at regular
intervals"
could do...
"same with nasty blocks. so you
could have like a lazer which appears and disappears,
which you have to jump through."
see
above
"oh yeah, those opening and closing platforms in
spectrum monty. you know the ones?"
Heh, those were
pretty hard to code in my remake of "wanted monty mole"
assuming you were referring to that game. I gave up in the
end.
"lifts - both horizontal and vertical."
I'll be
looking to program that in soon, as it was in JSW
II.
"(p.s. in case you can't tell, my secret ambition is to
make a really good monty sequel for the
PC!)"
Heheh, I'm actually colaborating with the guy who did
the Aufwiedersehen Monty Remake on a possible
"sequel" we could use a few idea's for the story and
stuff. It's a looong way off though. I want to get this
and Monty Deluxe finnished first :-)
Anyway,
some good idea's there. I want to build a really good
editor for this game and want to put loads of features
in, so any more ideas from anyone, post here or mail
me at dan_richardson@...
dan.
