Subject: Re: ZX Spectrum on TV last night!
Not only did Channel 4's Thumb Bandits have a
section on the ZX82 (renamed the ZX Spectrum), it even
mentioned MM/JSW in passing! :-)
`The Spectrum did
spawn a whole generation of bedroom-programmers. Most
learned little more than how to print "I am cool" all
over the screen. But some like Matt Smith wrote
classic games in their bedroom. His was Manic Miner in
1983. Unfortunately success went to his head in more
ways than one, and he soon vanished into
myth.'
The screens they showed were not from Manic Miner but
from Jet Set Willy: a bit of action from "The
Bathroom" and "Top Landing".
So Channel 4 televised
Jet Set Willy in 2002, having televised Manic Miner
in 2001 in the Thumb Candy programme which featured
an interview with Matthew Smith!
:-)
