Simple. Don't pause the game (or fix the bug yourself).

Indeed it is
not. A quick look at John Elliott's disassembly of JSW
(http://www.seasip.demon.co.uk/Jsw/jsw.mac target=new>http://www.seasip.demon.co.uk/Jsw/jsw.mac>) and a look at JSW with a Multiface produced this
quick-and-nasty poke: 35538,0 (changes LD B,2 to LD
B,0).

POKE 35538,47 is interesting - you can only unpause
the game if you press a jump key!

to lose a life. Then you wouldn't have to reset the
game if you got trapped! ;-)"

That's not as
daft as it sounds; I may have a hacking session and
see what I can come up with.
