With POKE 35538,0, holding pause makes the jumping sound come out
distorted! ;-)
POKE 35538,0 doesn't stop the auto-pause when you wait for a JSW-minute
(256 time-frames) with the music off. This would allow a player to pause the game while
(s)he is away from the Spectrum, whilst doing away with judicious use of the pause-key to
help crack a difficult room.
However, judicious use of the pause-key is an integral
part of playing certain Broadsoft rooms such as MM:Hobbit's "Fire and Water", JSW:LOTR's
"The Land of Shadow" or Goodnite Luddite's "THE SACRISTY"! :-)
The pause-key gives
such rooms a chess-like quality, which greatly enhances the game-experience
IMO.

P.S. I wrote "NITE LAW" yesterday, bringing the total of written-up rooms in Goodnite
Luddite to 25.
