Oh please don't... Well, at least not if the only reason is a busted tape-recorder-motor in your Spectrum. Seems like some good solutions have been presented here, so why not give'em a try?

JSW/MM-designer. Your games have frustrated the hell out of me, but
their addictivenes have had me coming back for more punishment time
after time.And, that part about !permanent! retirement... I've been there...
It's impossible. (And you're probably even more of a Miner Willy-
junkie than I am.) Take a break, blow off some frustration and come

i agree with this and what everyone else said. you can't let a burnt
out motor stand between you and something you love so much! i hope
you find away to continue playing and editing, be it now or in the
not-too-distant future :)
