Subject: Re: Manic Miner - When did you Start playing it?

""I started playing Manic Miner @ the age of 13, I am now 33, going
on 34 in a few months. That game has kept my interest for 20 years
and I still go back and have another go.""
I've probably retold this one a dozen times by now, but:
When I was five (about 1988) we had a C64. One day I came home from
somewhere - dunno where - and found my brother playing JSWII.
Instant love. I must have played that game a thousand times before
our Commodore finally gave up the ghost, then I played it on the
Amiga for another thousand times (along with Manic Miner, which I
discovered for the first time on this system), and then I got the
internet and emulation, which is the first time I really became
aware of a) the Speccy versions (especially the myriad fan edits)
and b) the whole Matthew Smith story. I might not even have got into
it online if I hadn't read a brief article in a magazine about
the "Where Is Matthew Smith?" website
Incidentally, has anyone got a fully functional version of JSW II
C64 to hand? Mine appears to be faulty, with the room designs messed
up in Under The Roof, the Trip Switch and others
