Subject: Hiya, folks...
Hiya there, folks. Longtime reader now finally a member here
promoting Dan's latest efforts :D. I've been doing so elsewhere, I
may as well do it here... ;)
I've been messing around with a beta version of Dan's editor and I
think it's marvellous. I've made my own versions of certain rooms
like the Bathroom and Dumb Waiter and it plays like the Speccy
version right down to a tee. That's not thanks to me though...
That's thanks to Dan's programming.
I personally think that the potentional in future JSW games for the
PC is an untapped area, mainly because people still like to mess
around with their Speccys... Well, I appreciate that but the fanbase
has greatly died out because that's all people have done; hacked the
original game and changed the graphics. I'm not saying that there
haven't been great new JSW games out there (JTJS and Willy's
Afterlife spring to mind) but people seem to have become bored with
this. A few years ago the Willy sites on the net were crammed full
of new stuff... Now they seem to be dead. What the hell happened to
Willy's Ultimate Fan Page for example?!
I was once working on Jet Set Maria for the Spectrum (I think Dan
might have put it up at some point, lol). All it stands as now is a
few screens hacked but this was never the original idea... I
couldn't possibly do what I wanted to with the Spectrum. Now perhaps
I can.
With Dan's editor you can make your own graphics, sound, have all
kinds of things happening that are so easy to do and would cause all
kinds of headaches on the Speccy (at least, for me!). Best of all,
it retains the original gameplay and physics of JSW and that's what
truly matters.
I'd certainly like to be able to help him out with all those screens
but my only fear is that I'm scared I'd mess the game up! (Always a
problem I faced when Dan has asked me to help him out!) Honestly,
mate, as I've said to you in person, if you give me the latest
version of your editor and grab all those blocks I'd help out as
much as I possibly could! Seriously though, if you wanna go for it
yourself, all the best and I hope that you do get this finished.
So heres to 2004 and here's hoping that there is some revival in JSW
and MM on the net. That's why I joined this group! (It's only taken
three years... :P) It's this the 20th year since JSW came out?!
Can't we make this a big deal?!
I'd like to see some people make their own games / screens on Dan's
editor, maybe a mass colaboration could be in the works? I'd also
like to see people make their own JSW ports for other machines but
most of all, I'd like to see NEW games not JUST for the Speccy! I'm
thinking about doing my own game already using this program
currently titled JSW - Overture 2004, but we'll see what happens.
Er... Sorry about the long message :D.
