The Simpsons. As soa1000 pointed out, Chester J. Lampwick was the
original inventor of Itchy & Scratchy, but (in one episode of The
Simpsons) someone else stole the copyright and became rich, while he
became a tramp.

Many decades later, Chester J. Lampwick sued the company who stole
Itchy & Scratchy, and they went out of business while he bought
himself a solid gold house.

Chester J. Lampwick

The item is the reel of the first-ever episode of Itchy & Scratchy,
now in the attic of the solid gold house (even though, in the
Simpsons episode, it was destroyed before he bought the solid gold
house).

Chester J. Lampwick reminds me very much of Matthew Smith in the way
that he invented something great, but was screwed by an unscrupulous
company and disappeared for many years. And his rags-to-riches tale -
complete with a top hat - reminds me very much of Miner Willy! :-)


There are two more Simpsons references in Party Willy (Part 2):

1. "The Land of Wind and Ghosts" is a reference to a Japanese
detergent called Mr. Sparkle (whose logo looks very much like Homer
Simpson, being a combination of a light-bulb and a fish),
which "banishes dirt to the land of wind and ghosts".

The Land of Wind and Ghosts
(Some of you who will have played an "early brick version" of this
room called "East Wing Roof", in my JSW:MM beta which is in the
Files section under Broadsoft/party_willy.zip.)

2. "Screams from a Shopping Mall" is an episode of Itchy & Scratchy
where Scratchy comes to a `nasty' end at the top of a `conveyor-
ramp'.
