Take a look at 92A4h
or thereabouts. The rope
uses (for calculation
purposes) byte 9 of the
8-byte guardian definition.
Therefore a rope
that is not last in the room's guardian
list is
entirely capable of causing havoc. In
particular,
if the next guardian in the list is a rope, then the
byte that is overwritten is the one that tells it how
far out from the centre it has swung.

By the
way, byte 7 of the rope definition is
how far out
the rope can get before it swings back. I haven't
seen that documented anywhere.
Byte 6 of the rope
definition doesn't seem to be used at all (at least, not
that I've been able to discover). Perhaps the
references to IX+9 in the code could be altered to IX+6, to
allow multiple ropes. Or perhaps the way to go is to
put a
dummy guardian (one of type 0?) between the
two ropes.
