cells set to black (or whatever you've got as the backdrop colour in
that room). That will give you an invisible (but still functioning)
rope.
Failing that I'm not too sure. I noticed you're using the Softricks
game engine, that may have something to do with it. Look in the list
of patches (the page in JSWED with all the checkboxes) and see if
there isn't a patch available to fix it.
Other than that I think I'd need more information or a copy of the
snapshot to help further.
By the way, given that you're in such an early stage in the game I'd
like to suggest you use the JSW64 engine. It has a lot of fiddly
extras that might not be good for newbies but at the very least you
can enjoy using more than 4 cell-types per room!
Though in a way I think it's good that there are 128 games still
being made, in the way that it's sometimes nicer to have a 48k game
instead of a 128k game.
Ok I'm rambling now.
Good luck with your project. I had a look at the demo and it's
shaping up to be very promising for a first hack. My first hack was
called "willy to the rescue" and was pretty pants (though it still
has major sentimental value to me).
