Subject: Dr. Andrew Broad's projects and games

First of all, I look forward to the realisation of all of your
projects, Andrew :-) .

I just have some questions and comments:

a) You actually /typed/ the games into a real Spectrum? That must
have taken an enormous number of man-hours for each game! Isn't it
possible to transfer a .tap file to tape using the computer's sound
card, and then just load it into a real Spectrum?

What do you mean exactly, "up to 1998"? Do you mean you have now got
to the games released back in 1998?

What are the "segues"?

When you apply those patches, will that create a new kind of modified
JSW engine, similar to Geoff Mode ("Andrew Mode", I guess)? In such
case, will it be possible to edit such a game (including the new
features) using your JSW Construction Kit? Would you collaborate with
John Elliott so that this kind of game could be edited in future
versions of JSWED as well?

This sounds very interesting, even though some of it may be too
technical for me :-( .

Yes, I'm familiar with Richard's document and I think it would
be /very/ interesting to read yours :-) . I look forward to it!

g) And on an unrelated note, I have started playing "MM: Ma jolie". I
finished the first room after I checked the position of the invisible
platforms in the editor (I think invisibility is an unfair trick and
I always use the editor when I encounter this kind of difficulty in
any game). The second room seemed quite easy, really. Now I am stuck
in the third room ("Majolica"), and I have run out of ideas how to
finish it. The problem is that the central item (located higher than
the others) can only be collected (once you have got rid of the
platform protecting it) either by jumping for it from below (but then
you would have to land somewhere safely or fall into the already
flashing portal), or standing on it and letting Willy fall (into the
portal flashing portal) - that's what I think, at least. You cannot,
in my opinion, collect it while jumping for it from below, because
such jump (from one of the two items located below onto the other)
would fall short (and you fall crashing to death) - and if the jump
is long enough, you don't collect the central upper item, because you
go over it. But if you collect the upper item by jumping on it from
one of the other items, and then wait to fall down into the portal,
you will get killed, because the portal is not flashing yet, because
the item you jumped from (and the one below it) have not been
collected yet, because you cannot collect the object while standing
on it and jump up or laterally at the same time. So I thought the way
to go would be to collect the four symmetrically-placed lower items
(and I have done it) and then at the end fall through the portal,
collect the last object while falling down and land inside the now
flashing portal.
The problem is, if I do it that way, I either get killed by the upper
monster, or I manage to get past her, but die hitting the ground at
the side of the portal.
Any hints?

Daniel
