Subject: Re: [Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy] Maria on Tour
This is the first Willy game I've tried in a good while, and it's an
extremely impressive one. Just exactly the sort of game that I'd try and
map and play all the way to the end. It looks slick, difficulty level is
about right for me (on 2x speed), and there's some terrific 'special'
rooms. The JSW64 engine looks very impressive; it's particularly great
to see variations on MM rooms such as "Skylab Landing Bay" worked into JSW.
I noticed a couple of bugs (or perhaps just things that haven't been
finished yet). First of all, when you're in an MM-type screen, the "Air"
bar disappears after you pause the game (using the 'Spectrum' pause
key). Not a real problem in an emulator, with its own pause key, but
it'd be problematic on a real Speccy. Secondly, when exiting "Rolferoos
in the double licker!" I got transported to "Ivy" and suffered an
infinite death experience. Shame, as I was just getting into it then.
Oh, and a minor quibble: isn't it the Blue Man *Group*?
But to avoid ending on a negative note, I'll reiterate what I said
above: a hugely enjoyable addition to the Miner Willy canon. Top job!
Eddie.
P.S. Here's a snapshot which illustrates both the missing "Air" bar and
the Rolferoo exit problem.
