Subject: Various points from Daniel

I would like to respond to/ comment on several unrelated things that
have been said recently.

1. To John

Igor said to John:

Absolutely! Honestly, I have never used any other editor, but JSWED
is so good that I don't feel any need to use other tools (well, I
would love to use some of the possibilities offered by Andrew's
SPECSAISIE, but it will take me some time and some quiet moments to
figure out how to use it).

2. To Sendy

Thanks for your explanation, Sendy. WYSIWYG - "What You See Is What
You Get" - is that it? JSWED is not 100% WYSIWYG – e.g. you always
see the rope in the editor but may not see it during the game (if the
air colour is not right) and in the editor you don't see the various
colour effects caused e.g. by "empty" guardians moving over platforms.

b) What does AFAIK stand for?

I hope so too, Sendy. What do you say?

3. To DrUnKeN mAsTeR!!!

Thanks for your encouraging words and for the tip about setting
vertical guardians :-) . You wrote:

Yes, I DO read all of your "massive" posts (and shorter ones too)
even if they are not divided into paragraphs (which admittedly makes
them a little more difficult to read) :-) .

I haven't had the time to have another go at "Maria on Tour" yet, but
I will hopefully do it this weekend – I look forward to it :-) .

No, I wouldn't really agree with this. I would rather go along with
what Sendy and Soa1000 have said. To me anything that is related to
JSW II absolutely belongs to the JSW canon, and I am not really
opposed to other things being added to the game engine. The beauty of
it is that if somebody doesn't like the new features, he/she doesn't
have to use them – after all, even with the newest version of JSWED
anyone can still create a good, old, traditional 48k engine game (the
only problem being that people "moving with the spirit of the times"
may think it's crap :-) ).

5. To Soa1000

I very much agree with things you said in your latest post. In my old
Spectrum (really: Timex) days I was extremely fond of typical
platform games, and particularly of MM and JSW (including JSW II
which I considered the definitive version), Dynamite Dan I and II,
Monty On The Run and Technician Ted. These are my all-time
favourites :-) .

I particularly liked your sentence:

"What I love about JSW and its subsequent remakes is this spirit of a
surreal little platform world, full of colourful and bizarre monsters
ducking and diving everywhere".

I would like to add it to my list of favourite quotations related to
JSW, which I include in the text files accompanying my games and
which at some point I will want to put on my website. Is it OK with
you if I use your words in this way?

Best wishes to everyone!

Daniel
