protect the item (just make sure it doesn't have white ink).
While we're on the subject of "Olde Style kitchen", I have two
further comments:
1. Having to wait for slow vertical guardians to move out of the way
(at the bottom of the screen) is tedious (makes me want to press `
in RealSpectrum), and should generally be avoided. Matthew Smith is
the master of "set off immediately and you walk through unscathed".
2. You can bypass the lower two rows of shelves by jumping off the
ramp in "West of Olde Style kitchen", making it even easier to get
the item than jumping up for it from below!

to see much more usage of this trick! :-)

so its ink was white on the second playtest too! :-O
I just tried it again, and it worked as I had expected.
So Crumbling-protected items and fast-crumbling blocks *are*
possible in JSW64, and I apologise for my misinformation.
