The STe was a brilliant machine, though you probably should upgrade
it to 1MB if it really is only 512K. You don't need more than 1MB
(the STe supports up to 4MB) unless you want to do some memory heavy
work on it such as audio or video editing (unlikely nowadays) if
you're only going to use it for games (in which case 512K is mostly
good enough, though some games do need 1MB).
The best platform game (in my opinion) was 9 Lives, let me know if
you want it, as I've never seen the full version on-line, and I'll e-
mail it to you. If you're new to the ST, then you need to know that
most games were protected, and so they cannot be converted to PC
files (disc images) that work with emulators. However, most games
were cracked (that is, pirates removed their protection, and
distributed the easily copyable versions, often with two or more
games on each disk.
The best pirated discs were probably the Pompey Pirates, because they
usually included instructions, and almost all of their games worked
(as opposed to, say, Automation, who were extremely prolific, but
who's games sometimes crashed or were missing files). When you
download a disc image (in .st or .msa format) you can convert it back
to a real floppy disc using a simple program on your PC. Use the
links on the follwing sites to find the games and the converter
program:
Some useful links are:

stuff.

The only JSW game I know of for the ST is the official one, which was
never released, though it is available on the net, and there was no
Manic Miner. I think they were relased on the Amiga, though (I
wouldn't know, I never had an Amiga).
Two more things, not all ST games work on the STe, but there are very
few that don't (and most of them did once the protection was removed,
so most pirated games work fine), and most games require you to boot
the ST up (turn it on) with the game disc in the drive (or insert the
disc and reset the ST - the switch is on the back).
If you need any more help, let me know. And enjoy Jimmy White's
Snooker, Stunt Car Racer, Lemmings and Damocles!
