Subject: "Jet Set Emily: Baby on the Go" 2006 Final Edition released!

Hello Everyone,

I am very pleased to announce the release of a new edition of Steve
Worek's game "Jet Set Emily: Baby on the Go".

I am extremely grateful to Steve for his permission to take up this
project and for his recent message supporting the final result.
Thanks a lot, Steve! :-)

The game package has been uploaded to the general area of the Files
section of the Group [Jet-Set-Emily__(Final).zip].

I. Notable features:

- It is the FIRST game based on the JSW48 game engine to feature a
well-functioning ATTRACT MODE. It comes after the title-screen tune
if you don't press any key. During the presentation the player sees
60 rooms (including 2 which are seen twice) and has split-second
glimpses of 3 other rooms (you can have a good look at them if you
pause the emulator). Willy does not get killed at any time, so you
see the rooms in all their splendour.

- It is the second gamma-released JSW48 game to feature more than 64
rooms. In fact, it has 71 ROOMS, all of which need to be visited in
order to complete the game successfully. The game has a logical, easy-
to-map layout.

- The game otherwise makes a very good use of the 48K memory,
featuring, in addition to the enhanced number of rooms, teleportation
and a manually-hacked title screen.

- The game has some challenges which may puzzle an inexperienced
player, including one instance of the "double-items effect", and
puzzles based on quirky features (QF) in some rooms. A document
called "The Quirky Spoiler" has been included in the ZIP package in
order to facilitate the completion of the game to the players who are
not familiar with or keen on the subject of QF.

- There are 256 items to collect. The game can be completed without
losing a single life, with a toilet-time of 8.34 (result obtained in
the final playtesting) or better.

II. Basic credits

I created this "final" edition (see details about the name below)
with kind permission from Steve Worek (message # 5777) using John
Elliott's JSWED v. 2.2.9. I incorporated a number of suggestions for
improvements given by Andrew Broad in message # 5771. I applied J. G.
Harston's extension of the JSW48 game engine, which allows it to have
more than 64 rooms. Of the 9 additional rooms, 2 are modified
versions of rooms designed by Steve Worek and included in earlier
(not gamma-released) editions of the game, and 7 are rooms designed
by Zoran Miladinov (used with his kind permission, and with some
modifications of mine).

Please refer to the "Jet Set Emily - Final" text file for detailed
credits, acknowledgements and technical information concerning the
manual modifications introduced into the game.

III. The name

I called the game "Final Edition", and I gave it the current year's
descriptor, which completes nicely the set of versions of the game:

Jet Set Emily 2002 - Original Edition
Jet Set Emily 2004 - Special Edition
Jet Set Emily 2006 - Final Edition

(the 2004 version was actually released in January 2005, but it was
completed in December 2004 and had that year in the original file
name).

It is important to note that the name "Final Edition", to which I had
grown used since the beginning of the project and in the end decided
to keep it, since Steve didn't object to it, does NOT mean at all
that someone else should not continue the development of the game
with Steve's permission. Frankly, I do not see why it should be done -
unless the game engine were to be changed to 128K. However, should
someone be interested, I would imagine that Steve would not object -
and obviously HE has the complete authority over a possible further
development of "Jet Set Emily" and all things related to it.

IV. Package contents

The ZIP package with the game includes:

- The file "Jet Set Emily 2006 (Final Edition).tap" - this is the new
edition of the game.

- The file "Former Editions.zip", containing "Jet Set Emily 2002
(Original Edition).tap" and "Jet Set Emily 2004 (Special
Edition).tap" - these are the previous gamma-released editions of the
game (designed entirely by Steve Worek), converted to the TAP format
and purified in the range # 4000 - # 8000 (in case of the former) and
bug-fixed (in case of the latter; only critical bugs were fixed to
make the game completable). Both versions of the game can be
completed without losing a single life.

- The file "Evolution.zip", containing several Z80, ZXS and TAP
format files - these are the earlier versions of the game, depicting
Steve Worek's progress on the project.

- The file "Jet Set Emily - Original.txt" - this is Steve's Readme
file accompanying the original and special editions (the file has
been renamed, but is otherwise unchanged).

- The file "Jet Set Emily Map.pdf" - this is a text-based map of
the "final" version of the game in PDF format.

- The file "Jet Set Emily - The Quirky Spoiler LQ" - the above-
mentioned document in PNG format which shows Willy's proper
positioning for many difficult jumps throughout the game, especially
the ones which involve the QF of the game engine. This document
should help people unfamiliar with QF to negotiate their way to the
completion of the game.
The ZIP file contains a lower-quality version of "The Quirky
Spoiler". I have also uploaded a higher-quality version of the
document to the general area of the Files section. The game package
should soon be available for download from my JSW website, kindly
hosted by Xabier Vazquez at http://xa.bi/jsw - after the files have
been uploaded there, I will remove the higher-quality version of "The
QS" from the Files section to free up the space it occupies.

- The file "Unused Ad.zip" - this is an unused piece of advertisement
for the Special Edition of the game, created by Steve Worek.

V. Final remarks

There are various spoilers in the documents accompanying the game
(the map, The Quirky Spoiler and the text file). Try to complete the
game without relying on them! If you don't want to miss any fun, do
not look at them before playing the game! And if you get stuck, a
complete RZX walkthrough of the game (all three editions) will be
coming to the RZX Archive (www.rzxarchive.co.uk) very soon!

Again, many thanks to Steve for his support and have fun, everyone!
:-)

Daniel
