Following my earlier promises made to this Group, in the summer of
2006 I carried out a complete analysis of JSW and MM games on the TZX
Vault AND the World of Spectrum. I checked out all the games which
are already hosted on both sites for their accuracy (to see if they
have the latest versions, if there are no problematic files, etc.), I
checked other information (whether it's a 48K or 128K game, the
author's name and origin, etc.), and so on. I summed up the results
in a number of tables with a number of comments, which I sent to
Steve Brown of the TZX Vault (I had been in touch with him on that
issue before) alongside with ALL of the missing files, and more (e.g.
I converted a number of files only available as SNA or Z80 to TAP,
purifying them in the #4000-#8000 range). I included also other games
of JSW/MM interest (following Andrew Broad's list), I included
updates of the Read-me files for some games, etc. - everything I
could think of that was pertinent. I have to thank Andrew for the
information he posted in relation to my plans about his and some
other games on the TZX Vault and WoS.

I sent the results of this effort, which took me probably two or
three weeks of very intense work, to Steve on 7 August 2006. Later I
sent him a couple of updates after the release of new files (such as
Herve's "Escape of the Snails" or Andrew's "Ma jolie SE").

The last I heard from Steve (22 Nov. 2006) was that he was "still
progressing with dumping tapes". I assume he has not finished
preparing his next update yet, but I look forward to it very much,
because I hope that it will indeed contain most of the currently
missing JSW games.

In my analysis I included "kind recommendations" to both Steve and
the World of Spectrum people, and I asked Steve to forward my
document, and the game files (together with the TZX files he would
have created) to World of Spectrum. I did not try to send them
anything directly or upload any of the missing files, because I
thought it would be much more effective if they received it from
Steve, whom they know and with whom they collaborate (the more so
that my document contains various recommendations concerning the
names of the games, substituing some problematic files with others,
etc. - so applying it will be more of a job than just uploading the
missing files).

So my sincere expectation is that as soon as Steve has released his
latest update, the JSW/MM collection of games on the TZX Vault will
be close to complete (I left out some games, mainly by the Drunken
Master, which do not yet have bug-free editions, but I hope will soon
have them), and that soon afterwards the World of Spectrum collection
will be JSW/MM-complete, too.

I did not really mean to write so much about my contribution, but
since the subject was brought up, I thought it would be proper to
inform the Group about the current status of the situation, at least
as much as I am aware of.

Daniel

P.S. Thanks, a lot, Andrew, for your tip about "The Silent Citadel".
I thought this kind of jump was impossible - I admit my defeat :-) .

P.S. 2 I hate tennis for what it does to the JSW/MM scene! :-)
