Subject: Re: ripping graphs from dynamite dan
Okay, pay attention cuz this is difficult to
explain.
Dans graphics are stored in a dramatically
different way not only to JSW but between the two Dan
games. Dan 2 is easy: Set the column width to 8, set at
least two of them across, then scroll down til you find
some graphics. Then it's a matter of adjusting the
column length til the two halves join together. This is
actually a very popular way of encoding graphics in my
experience.
Dan 1 works in a different way altogether. If I
remember correctly, the system is like that of Technician
Ted: The guardians could be between 16 and 32 pixels
wide, and so the column width will need adjusting to
see different groups. For examle, you can see the
Mermaid just by starting up the SGE and setting it to 16,
but you'd have to set it to 32 to see the thing with
antennae.
I also advise making sure the offset is
right, because usually it's wrong when you start and
you'll not be able to see the sprites properly. It's a
little annoying at times, but not hard to figure
out.
Oh yeah, the guardian in Time Hole was actually
hand drawn onto squared paper from a C64 copy of
Dynamite Dan, because I didn't have the SGE at the time :)
