[Re: Duel of the games 4! Super conundrum! Manic Miner vs Jet Set
Willy]

I love them both - as a player, and as the author of several MM/JSW
games.

The original MM has better room-design, while the original JSW,
though the rooms are rather bare, has a better atmosphere.

MM has Crumbly cells, which give a dimension of challenge not present
in JSW. It also has Eugene, switches, Kong Beasts, Skylabs and solar
power.

JSW has ramps, ropes, arrows and Maria - and a class of quirky
features based on the non-detection of an Earth-cell to the left of
Willy's head.

JSW64 combines all of the above to get the best of both worlds, with
many new features besides.

There's a time for linear games where each room is a set challenge,
and a time for branching games where the emphasis is on exploration.
The JSW game-engine allows many styles of geography - from linear to
fully connected. Hierarchical geography is perhaps the most
appealing - the happy medium between having plenty of choices and not
getting frustrated by the difficulty of working through them
systematically.
