Subject: JSW Afrikaan (and other projects)

It's been well over five years since I released the second in the
Kari Krišníková series - Goodnite Luddite - but thoughts of a sequel -
tentatively entitled Afrikaan - are still buzzing round my head like
the killer bees I have often envisioned in relation to Afrikaan.

Like We Pretty and Goodnite Luddite before it, Afrikaan is at least
as much a story as a game, but the plot is still very unclear in my
mind. If I tried to write it up now, it would probably come out as an
eclectic collection of anecdotes without any real purpose, rather
than unfolding into the glorious web of a coherent story.

The plot-elements that recur in my mind include a theocratic court of
law, miscarriages of justice, misadministration, a mysterious
ombudsman, a perilous quest undertaken by a small group of people to
prevent the ultimate triumph of evil, ambiguous loyalties that may
even switch during the story, and someone being seduced into evil by
a promise of everliving life.

A big thought occurred to me today, based on an event whose outcome I
expect to discover in early 2009. If the outcome is what I expect it
to be, then I'll still be at a loss for a coherent plot for Afrikaan,
and it will be in danger of being consigned to the Great Lost JSW
Games with which the history of the MM/JSW scene is littered.

If, however, the outcome is NOT what I expect it to be, then I plan
to use my expected outcome as a crucial plot-element of Afrikaan, and
perhaps make it my primary MM/JSW project for 2009.

My other MM/JSW projects (for the short term) include:

* JSW64: Flash MM - currently stalled on Cavern 29 due to technical
issues that I need to set aside a day to fix. I won't do so until I
have updated my List of MM/JSW Games (I'm currently down to 284
unread MM/JSW emails), but I would like to gamma-release this game in
2008 if my progress in the online Flash MM allows.

* Advanced MM/JSW Trainer: this has been stalled for almost two years
now, due to tennis-distractions, getting a job, and the need to
release JSW64MM: James Bond in 2007. I'd like to think I could get
back down to it some time in the next year - depending, of course, on
how terrible my backlogs will be after Wimbledon (from July onwards).
