Subject: UK mag-alert - Retro Gamer - Manic Miner: The Lost Levels
There is a four-page article by Stuart Campbell in Issue 63 of Retro Gamer magazine about a compilation of 20 caverns called Manic Miner: The Lost Levels.
The caverns are ones that were introduced (or modified) by non-Spectrum versions of Manic Miner:
1. "HOME AT LAST?" (Oric)
2. "THE AIRLOCK" (Oric)
3. "MUMMY DADDY" (GBA)
4. "THE HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KONG" (Oric)
5. "BACK TO WORK" (Oric)
6. "THE DRAGON USERS BONUS" (Dragon 32)
7. "NOT CENTRAL CAVERN" (Oric)
8. "DOWN THE PIT" (Oric)
9. "METROPOLIS BINGO" (GBA)
10. "AT THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH" (Oric)
11. "Eddie's Forest" (Archimedes)
12. "IN A DEEP DARK HOLE" (Oric)
13. "THE CHANNEL TUNNEL" (Oric)
14. "TOKYO UH OH" (GBA)
15. "THE SPACE SHUTTLE" (Oric)
16. "WHERE'S THE HYPERSPACE BUTTON?" (Oric)
17. "The Meteor Storm" (BBC Micro)
18. "THE END" (Dragon 32)
19. "The Final Barrier" (BBC Micro)
20. "This, folks, is the Last Cavern!" (Amstrad CPC)
The article gives a screenshot of each cavern, and describes them in terms of a story.
The compilation doesn't actually exist as a playable game. Nigel Fishwick (author of Manic Miner: comp.sys.sinclair) started implementing the caverns by editing the original Spectrum-version of Manic Miner, but sadly this effort was abandoned after two caverns.
So Stuart Campbell merely suggests playing the caverns in a series of emulators:
* Oric: DSOric or MESS
* GBA: Visual Boy Advance
* Dragon 32: Xroar or MESS
* Archimedes: Virtual A5000
* BBC Micro: BeebEm
* Amstrad CPC: WinAPE
The article also mentions "the superb SAM Coupé version, which effectively featured two entire separate sequels alongside the original 20 levels."
