Have you tried booting in Safe Mode? For example, on my desktop PC, if you hold F8 (after typing the BIOS password, if you have one), you get the Windows Advanced Options Menu.

In Safe Mode, it might be possible to rescue your files. It might also be possible to restore your computer to an earlier time (before the problems started) using System Restore.

I have outlined my plans on this Group and my website, but unfortunately my life is currently too hectic for MM/JSW to get a look in. The thing I'm currently working on could fall through, leaving me free for MM/JSW, but if things continue to go as they're going, I'm not even sure that I'll have any serious time for MM/JSW in 2010...
