Ian, to answer your question: I haven't. In the emulation era, I have never played JSW (or any other games) using a joystick.
In fact, in the real hardware era, I had a Kempston joystick and used it in various games, but not in MM or JSW as far as I can recall, because using the keyboard seemed a much better way of playing these games.
