I believe that in JSW, Maria and the Toilet are actually drawn after Willy, but before the guardians (items being drawn last).


However, special objects (Eugene/Skylabs/vertical guardians/Kong/Solar Beam - although the latter doesn't have any infilled pixels so its collisions are attribute-based) are drawn after the items in MM - and then portals are the last thing to be drawn to the screen buffer before it is copied to the display file.
