Subject: Guardian corruption / weird rope bug in UMM
One more thing that I forgot to mention - the guardian corruption only seems to occur if I set the game's start position to the exact place within 'Eugene Lair' which is the destination point of the portal in the preceding room (Room 53: 'Stonehenge Mine City'), and then load the file up so that the game starts off in 'Eugene Lair'. It doesn't seem to occur if I set the start position to anywhere else in 'Eugene Lair'.
And it doesn't seem to happen if I set the start room to 'Stonehenge Mine City' and walk into the portal, even though that takes Willy to exactly the same place to the start point which does yield the corruption!? (N.B. All the above refers to a game file with the 'Droplet-Skylabs' patch in place, to fix the previously reported problem with the Skylabs in Eugene Lair.)
So in a sense, this bug might be only a hypothetical concern, which might not occur in 'Eugene Lair' at all during the normal course of the running of the game. However, a similar thing did happen in another situation ('The Cold Store', as reported by SOA), so there's something amiss.
Whether it's a particular problem in 'Ultimate Manic Miner', or is something unresolved lurking within the JSW64 game engine, is a moot point...
