Thanks a lot for your help, Andrew!
Before reading your message, I de-installed JSWED 2.3.7 from the computer in question, restarted the machine (just in case) and then reinstalled the program. The result seemed to be the same as before, i.e. no improvement.
Now, after reading your message, I closed the seemingly frozen JSWED 2.3.7 and relaunched it - and it works! It's not an ideal situation, but I don't mind restarting the program when I start using it, or waiting a little, if it works normally later on.
What a relief!
