According to the Yahoo! announcement on top of the page, “starting December 14, 2019 Yahoo Groups will no longer host user created content on its sites. New content can no longer be uploaded after October 28, 2019.”

This means that this Group will end its active life next Monday, and will then disappear from the web on 14th December, 2019, just six days shy of its twentieth birthday. What a shame!

It is time to say ‘Thank you!’ to Andrew Broad, who founded this Group almost 20 years ago and has looked after it ever since, and to all the Group members, in particular those who posted their messages here. Thank you for your involvement, cooperation and friendship!

From my perspective, the Group was the main focal point for MM- and JSW-related activity until 2010, and has remained a repository of MM/JSW-knowledge and history to this day. I joined it back in November 2004, so it’s been part of my life and internet activity for the last 15 years. Perhaps it’s stupid to get sentimental over such things, but 15 years is a long time.

So I will say it clearly: The world will be a poorer place without the Manic Miner & Jet Set Willy Yahoo! Group…

For those of you who are still interested in the development of MM and JSW games for the ZX Spectrum, please join the JetSet Willy & Manic Miner Community – a friendly place where these subjects are still very much alive. You are also always welcome to visit JSW Central, where you will find detailed information about  gamma-released MM and JSW games for the Spectrum.

Finally, if anyone manages to archive the content of this Group successfully, please let me know. According to Yahoo!, “as of December 14 all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed”. I would be happy to help put it back online somewhere else if that was possible.

Thanks again to everyone who has visited this Group over the years! Good luck to you all and please keep in touch – you know where to find me once this Group is gone.

Daniel
