Fortunately, the reality isn't quite so stark. Yahoogroups will lose most of its web interface, but it will still be possible to send e-mails to groups. This is worth reading:

As someone said on another mailing list I'm on: 'Basically, it's going back to the vanilla mailing list service that
Yahoo bought from eGroups.com in 2002. Plus ça change!'

Well, if anything is left, it will certainly be better than nothing left at all. However, once the web interface disappears - the possibility to visit a website - it won't be much fun any more, not for me at least. I want a website I can visit, not just my mailbox.
I've always thought that receiving e-mails from this Group is optional; you can opt in and receive them, or opt out and only visit the website if you wish. I may be wrong on this, though. In any case, right now you cannot just send an e-mail to the other Group members, can you? I believe you can only post a message, which is (also) sent as an e-mail to the Group members (either all of them, or perhaps only those who opted to receive messages, I'm not sure which it is). When only messages are left, I guess it wouldn't make much sense to opt out of them...
