"about the room format, i noticed it differs from
the spectrum format in the sense that a platform is
defined in terms of it's length. presumably this means
that complex screens will take up more memory than
simple screens, and also screens which are underground
and feature tunnels on a mostly solid screen might be
tricky to do."
Yes more complicated screens will
require more memory but that's just the way it goes I
suppose. Mostly solid screens would be a bit more awkward
I s'pose but I wasn't really bothered about that
because there aren't really any in JSW2, although (I
think) they should still work out smaller even in the
worse case scenario. Still the engine will allow you to
totally replace the room decompression routine with one
of your own if you want to get really clever.

"still, it probably takes up significaltly less memory
than the spectrum format!"
Yes, it had to be in
order to cram everything in. All those pretty graphics
are rather more memory hungry than there speccy
counterparts unfortunately.
