Files NOT listed on JSW Central

JSW Central strives to provide a comprehensive, up-to-date list of all MM and JSW games which have been gamma-released by their authors, i.e. made available to the general public as finished products. Generally, JSW Central does not deal with files that are non-games (except for editors), unfinished games or ongoing projects.

Nevertheless, in response to questions arising about some files present on the Web that are not included in the lists on JSW Central, below is a listing of such files with the reasons why they are not included in any of the "official" lists on this website.

I. Non-game files

The following MM/JSW-related files for the ZX Spectrum are not included in any of the other lists on this website because they are neither games nor editors.

Sprite Library (R. D. Foord Software, 1986)

A 48K program which contains various sprites from Manic Miner, Jet Set Willy, Technician Ted, Jet Set Willy II, Dr. Jet Set Willy and some additional ones.

Jet Set Willy Screen Gallery (R. D. Foord Software, 1986)

A 48K program which presents all of the edited rooms from Jet Set Willy, without guardians, ropes or items.

II. Unfinished game files

The following MM/JSW game files for the ZX Spectrum are not included in any of the other lists on this website because they are evidently unfinished projects.

Jet Set Willy 4 (unknown author, unknown date, uncertain title)

This is Jet Set Willy III saved from the Softricks Jet Set Willy Editor with practically no changes. The only modifications in relation to Jet Set Willy III are: changed text of the scrolling message on the title screen (to advertise the Softricks JSW Editor), the setting of "<<<<<<<<<<< The City <<<<<<<<<<<" (18) as the starting room, the addition of the room "The Moat" in place of "The Plumber" (47), the addition of the room "The Vault" (61) and the Softricks modifications to the game engine. Both "The Moat" and "The Vault" are not new rooms, but sample rooms from the Softricks editor. The game is incompletable, as in "The Moat" a guardian collides with the rope, making the room unplayable; there is also an uncollectable item there.

It is unknown who created this file, when it was created and exactly what title it was supposed to have. It was recovered by Steve Brown of the TZX Vault, as "Jet Set Willy 4", from a batch of tapes from Graham Mason who used to work for Crash magazine (but was not exactly sure of their provenance); according to the info within the TZX file the game was "TZXed by José Luis Soler".

Jet Set Willy 5 (unknown author, unknown date, uncertain title)

This is Jet Set Willy III saved from the Softricks Jet Set Willy Editor with hardly any changes. The only modifications in relation to Jet Set Willy III are: changed text of the scrolling message on the title screen (to advertise the Softricks JSW Editor), the removal of guardians from and small edits to "The animalshop" (37) (which is now called "The NNCC screen" and is set as the starting room), the removal of guardians from "The Telephoneshop" (45), the addition of the room "The Moat" in place of "The Plumber" (47), the addition of the room "The Vault" (61) and the Softricks modifications to the game engine. Both "The Moat" and "The Vault" are not new rooms, but sample rooms from the Softricks editor. The game is incompletable, as in "The Moat" a guardian collides with the rope, making the room unplayable; there is also an uncollectable item there.

Jet Set Willy 6 (unknown author, unknown date, uncertain title)

This is Jet Set Willy III saved from the Softricks Jet Set Willy Editor with practically no changes. The only modifications in relation to Jet Set Willy III are: changed text of the scrolling message on the title screen (to advertise the Softricks JSW Editor), the setting of "The Industrial area" (58) as the starting room, the addition of the room "The Moat" in place of "The Plumber" (47), the addition of the room "The Vault" (61) and the Softricks modifications to the game engine. Both "The Moat" and "The Vault" are not new rooms, but sample rooms from the Softricks editor. Jet Set Willy edit from a German editor (unknown author, unknown date, unknown title)

There is a German JSW editor with the layout of most of the rooms modified (the guardians and the building blocks of the rooms are unmodified). Gary Pearce (Gawp) converted it to a playable SNA file, which continues to be hosted on his JSW Remakes website. Even though this file is modified significantly in relation to the original JSW, apparently is is not a finished game. It rather seems to be a product of someone playing with the editor, but not necessarily finishing the job. The game has many room exits leading to multiple-death scenarios, which makes playing it (especially without any tools like Rollback or saving and reloading shapshots) very frustrating. Furthermore, it is incompletable because of an uncollectable item (placed on an Earth cell) in "Ganz oben, wo die Geister ..." (60).

It is unknown who created this file, when it was created and whether it had any title.

The game files listed above go back to the times of the original hardware and there is no reason to suspect they will ever become finished projects. There are other unfinished game projects discussed on various websites, but they are more recent and they are not mentioned here as, hopefully, they may still be finished and gamma-released by their authors, making it onto the "proper" lists on JSW Central.

Please let me know if you believe any other files should be listed here.
