Subject: Bug Fixes
"- after starting a game while the title screen was in it's flashing
frenzy, the collission during the game wasn't aligned and everything
went a bit goofy."
I tried to start a game during it's flashing sequence and it seemed
okay to me, what exactly happened? I do know about the rope bug,
where you leave through the top of a room on the rope, Willy's
x coordinates are incorrect, which means collisions with walls are
all wrong. Maybe that was the cause.. I've fixed this now.
"- pressing 'jump' on a conveyor should jump willy in the direction of
the conveyor. once you're moving on a conveyor, it should be
impossible to jump straight up"
I've messed around with this a bit, and Willy is now unable to go
back the opposite direction of the conveyor once you're on it,
unless you jump on the conveyor in the opposing direction (if
that makes sense!). I've probably got it the best I can..
"- in the west of the kitchens, if you jump into the top of the ramp
you can walk a little way into the solid blocks. this is no big deal
though, it hardly distracts from the gameplay."
Unavoidable unfortunately, before, he could actually walk 4 pixels
deep in a solid block, but now he gets stopped by the next one.
"- in 'on the roof', the nasty block inside the ramp which is used
for
aesthetic purposes can kill you as you walk up or down the ramp (esp.
the little ramp on the right of the screen). if you ask me, matt
would have made these solid blocks had the room format not been so
limited (i mean, since when has walking into a wall killed you?), so
maybe you should just make those blocks solid instead of deadly and
solve two problems? :)"
Fixed.
"- the crumbling platforms need 1 more frame of crumbling before they
vanish. also, could you throw in some more crumbling graphics, like
all the crumbling platforms from manic miner? that would be quite
nostalgic."
Fixed.
I intend to put more grapics for crumblers in the full version (I
just wanted to see if they would work beforehand.) And collision
is a little better.
"- this whole 'continue game' thing - can you turn it off? it does
kinda take the challenge out of everything and also it makes
playtesting your levels hard because when you place willy into an
area so you can test it, he won't appear there. i tried turning this
off in the options screen but it wouldn't work."
Right, you can turn it off now in the options screen. I want to
give the player the chance to continue where they left off, because
the game was a tad large :). But now if you set it to off, it will
start a new game (and start where you want it to start from the
editor)
every time time you play.
"- some rooms which must be jumped into have a problem. for example,
docking bay. if you jump into it from the top left (on those high
platforms), and then die on the screen later, you will restart on the
screen without jumping, and hence fall to your death."
I'll be working on this for the full version. It's a bit tricky.
"also, if you like, i'd love to add some screens. just easy ones.
i've
always wanted to add to the original JSW2... and they could use the
crumbling blocks so they aren't 'wasted' in the actual game."
There's about 4 or 5 screens spare so it would be good if they got
used up :)
I'd be happy to put some extra screens in, make sure they are easy
mind, the game's hard enough as it is, well I think it is anyway!
Any idea's? you could always send me the .DAT files...
As for the crumblers, you have to actually complete the central
cavern at the end of the game to finnish it so they don't get
completely wasted :)
"another thing, when willy is on a conveyor, it would look cool if he
didn't walk as he moved (unless he's walking against it). i don't
know how easy that is."
That wouldn't be too hard, I could maybe put that in as an option
in the editor.
"finally, if you want other ideas for blocks, how about adding ice
blocks. basically, it's impossible to turn around on them, you keep
moving forwards. also, platforms which appear and disappear cyclicly
would be cool (you could have 2 types - while one appears the other
one disappears, etc..)"
I like the disapearing blocks idea.. I do want to keep adding new
stuff like block types in future versions.
"aaanyway, sorry for the bombardment. it's looking better than ever
now, i like the tripswitch idea!"
I haven't actually had chance to have a proper go at those trip
switches yet, so they might not work properly.
There are things which arn't going to be editable, daft things like
the boat sailing off or the rocket taking off arn't features in the
editor unfortunately.
Anyway, thanks for the bug feedback! Don't worry about bombarding me
I want this as perfect as i can get it, (which i doubt will be
perfect) but close is good enough for me :P
