Subject: ANOUNCE: New Adventures In Sci Fi finished!!
Right lads I finally finished it (well more like I got sick of making
it) so here it is warts n' all:
http://mtoohee.tripod.com/newadventuresinscifi.html
I'd recommend you read the following before playing it. (Check out
the hints and tips section in the Controls menu as well)
-Flash Player 6
This game requires Flash Player 6 which should download
automatically if you don't have it. Or else you can get it here:
http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer
I will try and make a downloadable version of the game soon.
-Loading please wait
Initially there should be 3 (short!) loading stages. The first part
loads up the Intro and title screen. This should only take a few
moments on a 56k modem. You can read the story and hints and tips
here. When you click on the play button the actually game will start
loading. This file is quite large (just under 1mb) but the game
should be ready to play just after a minute or so on a 56k modem as
the game downloads while you play. However, if it doesn't fully
download initiially it'll have to be downloaded again from scratch
the next time and so on. Basically there should be no problem unless
you get killed or press the restart before the game has fully
dowloaded. You can wait for the game to fully download if you wish.
Finally when you die the first time title screen will load again.
Again this should take a few seconds or so. Sorry for any
inconvenience but remember that after everything has fully loaded
initially they don't have to be loaded again.
-It's Jet Set Willy, but it isn't.
This game was written from scratch with my (somewhat limited)
programming skills using ActionScript for Flash to look and act like
a Jet Set Willy game, sort of like an emulator, but does behave
slightly different to the original he jumps different, height that
kills him different, moving floors are different etc.. Anyway just
letting you know this in case you try certain techniques and tricks
that would otherwise work with the original source code but don't in
this game. One notable trick in this game (It happened by accident)
is that sometimes if Willy's walking in a tight area and you hold
down the Space bar he goes really fast. I incorporated this in a few
rooms of the game.
-Cheating
There is a cheat menu but you need a password to activate it. The
password is located in a room. Anyway if you find the cheat feel free
to print it here. (I might do it myself if no one's found it after a
while). Anyway if you find a flaw and are able to access the cheat
menu without the password please let me know.
-We can't perform the quirkafleeg
Okay you'll probably notice this eventually but due to my lack of
programming skill (or the limits of ActionScript) there are no ropes
in this game. Sorry.
-Bugs and glitches and stuff
Again due to my lack of programming skill you might find one or two
things wrong with this game. Most notable is the collision detection.
I did my best to make sure Willy dies when something definitely hits
him but you might find him loosing a life when the guardian in
question appears not to be touching him. And on the other hand you
might be apparently touching a guy but not dying. This might have
something to do with ActionScript either. Anyway I don't think it's
that bad, but if you think otherwise let me no. Apologies in advance.
Feedback
I have only tested this game on my computer with internet explorer
and a 56k modem. I'd greatly appreciate any feedback you have on this
game. If something doesn't work on your computer or you think of some
improvements or you reckon the game is too hard, too crap etc or
spot a really noticeable flaw or whatever just drop me an email or
post something here. Thanks in advance.
That's about it. I hope you have as much fun playing this game as I
had making it and if you reckon it's crap then all I can ask is that
you appreciate the work that's gone into it.
Right, see yas later.
Mike
