Subject: My Story
I actually posted a message the other day but it seems to have
disappeared (not sure what i did wrong) anyways i'll reiterate since
i really wanted to have my say :) ..
I bought willy on the compilation tape "They sold a million" back
when I was about 13. Willy has always been a favourite game of mine,
definitely my favourite platform game of all time, and I also think
its the best (ok, i'm *really* biased)
What makes willy so great (to me) is a number of reasons. I really
liked the sprites, they are the most imaginative of any spectrum
game I've played. Also the background/sprite collision seems almost
perfect, like, if you mistime a jump its always *your* fault and
never the games. I found willy to be a *real* challenge, and I've
never completed all the rooms in one go (so i havent seen the
ending), but one of the biggest things that kept me coming back was
just the sheer fun of wandering around finishing rooms in whatever
order I wanted (non-linear gameplay). This game has like, the
HUGEST "one-more-go" addiction thing going on. Oh, and another
really great thing about this game is the way *everything* is timed,
like willy's movement and the sprites initial positions and
animation speeds.. it just all fits (amazingly). And I also liked
(and never really got sick of) the background music. Well, I might
as well say it.. I love *everything* about this game.
Oh. And I also wanted to know about willy's creator Matthew Smith.
I read on a webpage that after willy, he kinda disappeared from the
games scene. Did he ever write any more great games? Seems like a
*HUGE* waste of talent if he didnt.
Oh well thats my 2 cents.
