Subject: Re: Patch Vectors (switches)

A switch which can place platforms etc onto a room, switches that
change things in other rooms or have some other global significance..
I remember SOA wanted four switches in JSW:FTB which needed to be
flipped before you could continue to the end. Looks like finally that
can go ahead (if he can be bothered with it after all this time ;).

Also, I'd like to be able to set up a regular switch but have the
Patch Vector augment it to do extra things as well such as change the
conveyor direction. I take it that's possible enough.

I'd really love to do one of those "binary logic" switch levels. I
dono if you've seen a game called The Lost Vikings, but it has a set
of 4 or 5 switches which operate a series of small platforms over a
pit. Each switch has a binary string attatched to it such as 101110,
and the 1's are filled in as a platform and the 0's are holes (often
you can't jump because the celing is too low). Obviously, the
switches have different strings and they are all added up in a toggle
fashion so you have to frantically try all combinations to find the
right way across. Also later on there were switches accessible on the
bridge so you had to manipulate it whilst on it, being careful not to
turn off the tiles you're standing on. That's probably the most
ambitious patch vector I'd try that deals with switches. (It's not as
complicated as it sounds as it's probably easier to describe to a
computer than it is a person in this case!)

Other ideas:

- switches changing a teleport destination
- changing room exits (a la the lift in Ted and Bug Slayer)
- um.... changing willy's sprite? Colour? Phase of the moon? (I'd
like to see someone code that). Ok, I'm running out of ideas now...
